モダンダンス、ヒップホップ等を経て、1996年からオディッシー（オリッシー）ダンスを学ぶために渡印。

ケルーチャラン・モハーパトラ、プロティマ・べディら伝説のオディッシー（オリッシー）ダンサーに師事し、南インドの舞踊学校ヌリッティアグラムにてオディッシー（オリッシー）ダンス他ヨガ、各国のダンス、演劇などを学ぶ。1998年からヌリッティアグラムのダンサーとして、数多くの公演活動をするとともに、
日本でレクチャー・デモンストレーションやワークショップを開く。

2007年からはインド政府公認のインド古典舞踊家ソロ・オディッシー（オリッシー）ダンサーとして登録され、同年NHK　BS1の「ファースト・ジャパニーズ」ではドキュメンタリーフィルムが放映された。2008年にはNEWS WEEK誌の「世界が尊敬する日本人100人」のうちの一人として選ばれる。

現在はソロ公演を中心に活動するとともに、コンテンポラリーダンサーやフュージョンミュージシャンとのコラボレーションによるタントリックダンスのパフォーマンスも展開している。

公演の合間に2008年から倶楽部パソナでのオディッシー（オリッシー）ダンスとヨガのワークショップを日本で定期的に開催し、インドのオリッサ州ブバネシュワールでは生徒の指導にもあたり、日本、ヨーロッパなど各国から生徒たちが住み込みでオディッシー（オリッシー）ダンスを習いに来たり、イノヴェーティヴ・ダンスの作品依頼に来ている。生徒たちは、MOPA（Masako Ono Performing Arts）として各インド、日本、イタリア等でそれぞれ公演活動を2009年より開始。

2009年にムドラー・ファンデーションを立ち上げ、インドの貧しい子供たちにダンス・パフォーマンスや海外アーティストによるアート・ワークショップなどを提供している。
